Aargau

The four regions of Aargau, Berne Aargau, the Fricktal, and Freiamt Baden are distinguished by their uniqueness. The Paul Scherrer Institute of Aargau is home to the largest research center in Switzerland for natural and engineering sciences. With 13 historic towns and over 70 museums and exhibitions, including the one-of-a-kind «Strohmuseum im Park» (Staw Museum), this region has a wealth of unique cultural heritage. Famous castles are witness to a fascinating past. Exciting productions revive the Age of Chivalry and the lives of the Habsburg aristocratic family that has its origins in Aargau. Aargau is above all rich in scenic gems such as the “Wasserschloss” of Switzerland, a special flood plain where the rivers Reuss and Limmat unite with the river Aare. Numerous hiking and biking trails through lush meadows and cool forests attract nature lovers and sports enthusiasts. Rest and relaxation is offered at the many thermal baths in Rheinfelden, Zurzach, and Schinznach Bad.
