Bed and Breakfast in Lausanne
Lausanne, capital of the French-speaking canton of Vaud, has approximately 140,000 inhabitants and is the fourth largest city in Switzerland. Nestled between vineyards and woods overlooking the Savoy Alps, Lausanne is very popular with tourists thanks to its magnificent location on the slopes of the northern shore of Lake Geneva, its Mediterranean flair, and the variety of sights. The picturesque old town features many shopping facilities, cosy cafés, and impressive buildings from different eras. Towering above the city is the Notre-Dame Cathedral, built in 1165 and consecrated in 1275. It is the largest Gothic church in Switzerland, notable for its remarkable stained glass windows from the 13th century. The most valuable of these is the rose window that, along with the Rose of Notre Dame in Paris and Chartres, is among the most important in Europe. Famous is the night watchman of the cathedral. From the tower, he announces every hour from 22:00 to 02:00 in all four cardinal directions. Another impressive building is the Château Saint-Marie. This castle was built from 1400 to 1430 on behalf of the bishops of Lausanne and has remarkable crenelated defensive slits, consisting of bricks. Other well-known examples of this type of architecture are the fortress of Verona and the Kremlin in Moscow. This diverse and vibrant cultural city not only impresses guests with its historical sights, but also offers a wide variety of sports and leisure facilities, a wide range of luxury hotels, bed & breakfasts with regional character plus lower-priced apartments, functional rooms, and private accommodations. All in a beautiful location. Being a university town, Lausanne is home to renowned training centres such as the Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), the Institute for Management Development (IMD), the Hotelfachschule (EHL school of hotel management), and the University (UNIL). Additionally, Lausanne is the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee and various world sports federations.
