So what is BnB Switzerland doing in the face of the looming energy crisis?
As a member of Parahotellerie Schweiz we are part of a dialog with associations and organizations from the tourism sector to give the industry the voice it needs if power restrictions are under discussion. As an interest group, Parahotellerie recognizes the seriousness of the power problem. Its members are ready to make a major contribution to the solution. BnB Switzerland consists to a very large extent of small providers whose needs must be given particular attention because they have fewer financial and human resources to take action.
Together, we are calling for the following:
- The federal government should not order the general closure of facilities or ban appliances.
- Parahotellerie Schweiz proposes instead that providers must achieve a defined energy saving target. These would be set individually to reflect the nature and options of each business.
- Different target bands should be defined, based on the requirements of the Federal Office for National Economic Supply, FONES.
- Any provider who defines and implements measures and can demonstrate their effect should be granted relief from blanket restrictions.
BnB Switzerland will keep its members informed of further resolutions and measures, and support them with the relevant guidance and templates.
8 ways that you can save power as a guest or at home and to help out your host family.
Electrical appliances
Unplug appliances when they are not in use, or switch them off.
Air the room
Airing thoroughly for 5-10 minutes 3 times a day is better than having windows tilted open all day.
Temperature
Simply turn the heating down and reduce the room temperature by one degree. It's an easy way to save energy.
Washing machine/dishwasher
Wait until the washing machine is full before switching it on. The same applies to the dishwasher.
Drying laundry
Air-dry your laundry, but don't forget to air the room regularly.
Cooking
When cooking, put the lid on the saucepan, and boil water in a kettle rather than a pan.
Lights
Switch the lights off when you leave the room.
Showering
Taking a shower rather than a bath saves both energy and water.
