When tourism appeared in the Bernese Oberland at the beginning of the 19th century, Thun developed through the construction of hotels in all price categories and a wide range of Bed and breakfast, apartments, rooms and private accommodation to a popular tourist destination. However, Thun is not only captivating because of its location, but is also a great backdrop for cultural events such as the Thun Lake Festival or the Castle Concerts, which every year attract enthusiastic visitors from near and far. On the other shore of the lake lies Interlaken, the ideal starting point for excursions of all kinds: over 45 Mountain railroads, cable cars, chair lifts and ski lifts lead to a dense network of hiking trails and ski slopes, including the Jungfrau Ski Region with 210 kilometers of groomed slopes. The town lies in a narrow, elongated valley between the emerald green Lake Thun and the Lake Brienz. Especially popular: a paragliding flight with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Swiss Alps and lakes.
